ELACCA applauds Queensland Government’s leadership in child safety

Media release

20 February 2025

The Early Learning and Care Council of Australia (ELACCA) welcomes the release of the Statement of Shared Commitment – Every Interaction Counts at Queensland Parliament House today. The Statement is a joint child safety initiative across the Queensland early learning and care sector, including the Early Childhood Regulatory Authority.

From Brisbane, ELACCA CEO Elizabeth Death noted that the Statement of Shared Commitment represents a collective commitment to providing a child-safe culture in all Queensland services, and welcomed the truly unified approach to child-safety across the sector.

‘There is nothing more important than the safety of young children in our care, Ms Death said. ‘ELACCA applauds the Queensland Government including Minister for Education, John Paul Langbroek, the Department of Education, providers and sector colleagues who have signed up to the Shared Commitment.’

‘ELACCA strongly supports every effort to keep children safe, and to ensure positive experiences and interactions for all children attending early learning and care services in Queensland. We call on other states and territories to follow Queensland lead.’

ELACCA encourages Queensland services to visit the Department of Education website at: www.qld.gov.au/ECECcommitment for access to a suite of resources, training and workshops and communication materials that relate to the Statement of Shared Commitment.

About us:

The Early Learning and Care Council of Australia (ELACCA) was established to promote the value of quality early learning and care as an integral part of Australia’s education system. Our 18 CEO members include some of the largest early learning providers in the country, representing both not-for-profit and for-profit services. ELACCA members operate 2,017 long day care services, 320 preschool/kindergarten services and 88 OSHC services, covering every state and territory. They offer one-quarter of all the early learning places in Australia. Together, our members serve 232,978 children and their families, and employ more than 59,000 staff.

As well as promoting the value of quality early learning and the need for greater public investment, ELACCA advocates for the right of all children to access quality early learning and care, particularly children facing disadvantage. We do this by drawing on the knowledge and practical experience of our members and representing their views to decision makers in government, the media and the public.
