What sort of qualifications do you have, and how did you get them?
I started my Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care while working as a cosmetician at Priceline part-time. I went on to study my Diploma, as I found the short course fascinating. I soon felt confident to apply for a job in early childhood as I pursued my Diploma studies. I am now 8 months away from graduating from La Trobe University as an Early Childhood Teacher, while also working fulltime as an educator.
What was your favourite subject at school, and why?
Art. I studied VCE Studio Arts and I have a passion for the arts. Art has helped me to also find a greater understanding of the children I work with. Art is a wonderful way we can express ourselves.
What do you wish that other people understood better about your job?
I wish that people understood that working in early childhood education is an important and very special job that should be taken up with pride! This job is much more than just “watching children play”. This job is shaping children’s futures and getting them reading for their journey in life.
