Why did you decide to become an early childhood educator?
I believe the early years play a significant role in a person’s life. Working as an early childhood educator is highly rewarding, as it allows me to support children’s development and learning. It is a privilege to play a role in children’s lives and make a difference.
What sort of qualifications do you have, and how did you get them?
I have a Master of Teaching (Early Childhood Education). I did my studies at Deakin University.
What was your favourite subject at school, and why?
Science. I enjoyed doing science experiments and watching what was happening.
What is the most valuable thing you’ve learned from the children you work with?
Children’s creativity.
If you were a three-year-old today, what element of early learning and care would you love the most?
Messy play!
What experiences from your own life have been most useful in your work with young children?
Exposure to diverse experiences, such as travelling, reading and meeting people from different backgrounds.
What do you wish that other people understood better about your job?
Early childhood education is not babysitting!
